About Peter
Peter has over 26 years’ experience in recruitment, but his journey into the industry was an interesting one. While working as a Manager for an Office Supples company, one of his Key Accounts was Integrated Workforce, a blue-collar recruitment company. The MD had enough of spending big on office supplies, so he offered Peter a job.
After 9 years at Integrated and seeing an opportunity to expand on the usual recruitment service model, Peter established IRP. The model was based on post-placement service, being present on the factory floor and supporting Supervisors and Managers.
Peter’s greatest achievement is creating a Recruitment Company that since its inception in 2006 has remained true to its purpose.
“Despite all the ups and downs, I’m very proud that IRP has endured, and we are still doing what I set out for us to do. We have stayed true to our calling.”
Q&A
What do you love about working in the recruitment industry?
Being a frustrated tradesperson, I love seeing how things get fabricated. I still get blown away by the skill and talent of tradespeople!
When I’m not busy with work I..
Love attempting DIY projects. As I said, deep down I’m a frustrated tradie with virtually no talent, but I’ll keep practicing. In the meantime, I won’t be giving up my day job!
Do you have any interesting stories from your career?
When I worked at Integrated, the dress code was a long-sleeved shirt and tie. I went on many site visits where they were refurbishing locomotive engines. I’d got to the know the team pretty well and they’d have a go at me for wearing a tie. One day when I walked in, the team of fitters had set up a prank! They grabbed my tie and a pair of scissors, cut off the tie and said, “if you want to be one of the boys here, you can’t wear a tie”, I never wore one on site again.
